The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced plans to expedite the delivery of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters as part of its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats across the nation.

Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, made this known during a high-level visit to the United States for a Programme Management Review Meeting on the acquisition of the advanced military aircraft.

According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the visit provided an opportunity for the CAS to personally inspect the helicopters and engage with senior officers of the United States Marine Corps regarding operational best practices.

Enhanced Combat Capabilities

"We are fully committed to ensuring these platforms are delivered in the shortest possible time. Every necessary step will be taken to facilitate a seamless procurement and integration process," Air Marshal Abubakar stated.

The acquisition of the AH-1Z Viper helicopters is expected to significantly enhance the NAF's combat effectiveness, operational efficiency, and mission readiness in addressing Nigeria's security challenges.

"This visit has provided a unique opportunity to understand best practices for the operation, sustainment, and logistical support of the AH-1Z platform from the United States Marine Corps," the Air Marshal added.

Strategic Partnership with the US

Air Marshal Abubakar expressed gratitude to the United States government for its continued strategic partnership with Nigeria, particularly in strengthening the country's military capabilities.

"We are deeply grateful to the United States Government for its enduring strategic partnership with Nigeria," he stated.

The NAF has reaffirmed its commitment to the effective and responsible deployment of all acquired air assets in the ongoing fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening Nigeria's peace and stability.

According to the statement, the Air Force aims to create enduring peace while protecting innocent lives and property in line with internationally accepted rules of engagement.

The procurement of these advanced attack helicopters comes at a critical time when Nigeria continues to grapple with various security challenges across different regions of the country.
