The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to expedite the delivery of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters as part of ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the nation, according to Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
Air Marshal Abubakar recently led a high-level delegation to the United States for a Programme Management Review Meeting regarding the acquisition of these sophisticated attack helicopters. During the visit, he personally inspected the aircraft and engaged with senior officers of the United States Marine Corps to discuss best practices for operation, sustainment, and logistics support of the AH-1Z platform.
"This visit has provided a unique opportunity to understand best practices for the operation, sustainment, and logistical support of the AH-1Z platform from the United States Marine Corps," Abubakar stated. "We are deeply grateful to the United States Government for its enduring strategic partnership with Nigeria."
Enhanced Combat Capabilities
According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the acquisition of these helicopters will significantly enhance the Air Force's combat effectiveness, operational efficiency, and mission readiness in the ongoing fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening Nigeria's peace and stability.
"We are fully committed to ensuring these platforms are delivered in the shortest possible time. Every necessary step will be taken to facilitate a seamless procurement and integration process," the Air Marshal emphasized.
The NAF has also reiterated its commitment to the effective and responsible deployment of all acquired air assets in accordance with internationally accepted rules of engagement, with the ultimate goal of creating enduring peace while protecting innocent lives and property.
This acquisition comes at a critical time when various regions of Nigeria continue to face security challenges from armed groups, highlighting the government's determination to strengthen its military capabilities in response to these threats.
