The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to expedite the delivery of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters to bolster its fight against terrorism and banditry across the country, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar has announced.
Air Marshal Abubakar made this commitment during a high-level visit to the United States for a Programme Management Review Meeting focused on the acquisition of the sophisticated combat aircraft.
According to a statement by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the Chief of Air Staff personally inspected the helicopters and engaged with senior United States Marine Corps officers on operational best practices.
Enhanced Combat Capabilities
"We are fully committed to ensuring these platforms are delivered in the shortest possible time. Every necessary step will be taken to facilitate a seamless procurement and integration process," Air Marshal Abubakar stated.
The acquisition is expected to significantly enhance the NAF's combat effectiveness, operational efficiency, and mission readiness in addressing Nigeria's security challenges.
"This visit has provided a unique opportunity to understand best practices for the operation, sustainment, and logistical support of the AH-1Z platform from the United States Marine Corps," the Air Chief noted.
Strategic Partnership with the US
Air Marshal Abubakar expressed gratitude to the United States government for its continued strategic partnership with Nigeria, particularly in strengthening the country's military capabilities.
"We are deeply grateful to the United States Government for its enduring strategic partnership with Nigeria," he emphasized.
The NAF has reaffirmed its commitment to the effective and responsible deployment of all acquired air assets in the ongoing fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening Nigeria's peace and stability.
The Air Force aims to create lasting peace while protecting innocent lives and property in accordance with internationally accepted rules of engagement.
