Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his withdrawal from the highly anticipated joint concert with American music icons 50 Cent and Mary J Blige at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The singer made the announcement on Saturday via his Instagram story, stating that he would no longer participate in the event scheduled for July 3, 2025. According to Davido, his decision stems from unresolved issues with the concert organizers, Iconic Presents, regarding "key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality" of his performance.

Demanding Respect for African Creatives

In his statement, Davido hinted at discrimination issues, emphasizing that "Africa must be respected" in the global entertainment industry. This stance highlights growing concerns about equitable treatment of African artists on international platforms.

"I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Iconic Presents concert," Davido stated. "Despite numerous attempts to resolve issues concerning key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance, these matters remain unaddressed."

The Afrobeats star clarified that while he would not be performing, the event would proceed as scheduled with the other artists. He also reassured his London fans that they would still have an opportunity to see him perform during the European leg of his upcoming 5Alive tour this summer.

African Artists Breaking Barriers

BenriNews recalls that Nigerian musicians Burna Boy and Wizkid have previously sold out the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium independently, demonstrating the growing global influence and commercial power of African artists. Davido's decision to withdraw from a joint concert with established American stars underscores the confidence and standing African artists now command in the global music industry.

This development comes at a time when African music, particularly Afrobeats, continues to gain international recognition and commercial success. Davido, alongside peers like Burna Boy and Wizkid, has been at the forefront of this cultural movement, consistently pushing for proper recognition and respect for African talent on the global stage.

Neither 50 Cent nor Mary J Blige has publicly commented on Davido's withdrawal from the concert as of the time of this report.
