Nigerian music icon D'banj has stirred conversations in the entertainment industry after notably excluding Wizkid from his list of top three Nigerian artists during a recent interview.
Speaking on the Adesope podcast, the Kokomaster named Rema, Davido, and Burna Boy as the only artists he currently listens to, completely omitting Wizkid who many consider one of Nigeria's biggest music exports.
When asked by the host to name three artists he's currently listening to, D'banj was quick to highlight Rema's energy as particularly impressive. "Shout out to Rema. I love Rema's energy," he stated.
The "Oliver Twist" hitmaker went on to praise Davido for his humility and work ethic despite his success. "You know, there's this guy that I love a lot and he loves me too. He will be doing as if tomorrow, if he wakes up, there's no money—David is hustling like he doesn't have money," D'banj remarked.
"And I think people should learn from how he carries himself, like he does not have a penny, yet he is so consistent," he added, highlighting Davido's grounded approach to his career.
Completing his top three, D'banj commended Burna Boy for his intentionality and performance skills. "Then Burna Boy is too intentional—his live shows are amazing," he concluded.
The interview has sparked reactions among music fans, particularly Wizkid's supporters who have questioned the omission of the "Essence" crooner from D'banj's list.
Industry observers note that such personal preferences are common among artists and don't necessarily reflect industry rankings or achievements. The Nigerian music scene continues to thrive with diverse talents making waves both locally and internationally.
The full interview, which contains more insights from the veteran musician, is available on Adesope's podcast platforms.
