At least three people were feared dead and two others injured after suspected bandits attacked travellers along the Damari-Dandume road in Katsina State on Friday evening.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared information about the incident on social media platform X on Saturday, the assailants blocked the road and opened fire on unsuspecting commuters.
"Yesterday evening, armed bandits blocked Damari-Dandume road and started shooting sporadically. Unfortunately, three people lost their lives and two others sustained injuries," Bakatsine wrote.
Aftermath of the Attack
The bodies of the deceased victims were reportedly taken to the Damari Primary Health Care Centre, where they currently remain in the facility's mortuary. The two injured survivors have been transported to nearby health facilities for urgent medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, which represents the latest in a series of bandit attacks plaguing the northwestern region of Nigeria.
This attack follows similar incidents in Katsina and neighboring states, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by residents and travelers in the area.
