Troops of Operation Forest Yakin (OPFY) have successfully eliminated notorious terrorist kingpin AUTA and several of his close associates during a major offensive operation in Zamfara State.
The military operation, conducted on Tuesday, June 10, targeted terrorist hideouts around Ƙunchin Kalgo town in the Kunchin Kalgo District of Tsafe Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama who shared details of the operation on Thursday.
Details of the Military Offensive
During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the death of AUTA and two of his close associates identified as Abdul Jamilu and Salisu. The military forces reportedly overpowered the armed fighters after heavy combat.
However, the fate of another terrorist kingpin known as BABAYE and an unnamed associate remains uncertain. Local sources believe they may have been killed during the exchange, but their deaths have not yet been confirmed.
In a related development, Sale Ado Madele, also known as Sarki and the eldest son of infamous bandit leader Ado Alieru, narrowly escaped the military assault by fleeing through nearby farmlands. Witnesses reported that his escape occurred while local farmers were working in their fields, providing him a route to avoid capture.
Following the raid, terrorists in Ƙunchin Kalgo have reportedly mobilized sympathizers to search for BABAYE and other fighters declared missing after the military operation.
This operation marks another significant achievement in Nigeria's ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the northwestern region, where banditry and terrorism have plagued local communities for years.
