The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), operating under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has successfully destroyed a terrorists' logistics chain in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State, dealing a significant blow to insurgent operations in the region.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, confirmed the operation in a statement released on Monday. According to the statement, the targeted area has long served as a fortified enclave for the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram.
The Mandara Mountains, characterized by rugged, mountain-covered terrain along Nigeria's border with Cameroon, had recently experienced increased terrorist activity. Intelligence reports indicated a significant logistics build-up and the presence of senior JAS commanders in the area.
"The operation followed credible intelligence received about insurgents who have transformed the location into a safe haven for terrorist commanders," Ejodame stated. "NAF aircraft executed a series of well-coordinated air interdictions, successfully targeting and destroying high-value terrorist infrastructure including logistics warehouses, command centres, and defensive shelters."
This operation represents another milestone in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Nigeria's northeast region, where security forces continue to battle insurgent groups that have plagued the area for over a decade.
Military analysts suggest that disrupting logistics chains is a crucial strategy in weakening terrorist organizations, as it limits their ability to sustain operations and launch attacks against civilian and military targets.
The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its air campaigns against terrorist enclaves in recent months, leveraging advanced surveillance and precision strike capabilities to target insurgent hideouts while minimizing civilian casualties.
Borno State, which has been at the epicenter of the Boko Haram insurgency, continues to witness both military successes and security challenges as government forces work to restore peace and stability to the region.
