A violent clash between herdsmen and villagers at Kudu Village Market in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State has resulted in the death of one person and left two others injured, police authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred on Sunday, June 9, around 4:00 p.m. during a market day gathering, when a group of eight herdsmen from Fulani Camp in Gbete Village allegedly confronted three residents from Uppo Village.

Details of the Violent Confrontation

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, who shared information on his X handle, the altercation quickly escalated into violence. During the confrontation, Suka Alh. Sani reportedly stabbed 25-year-old Chede Japo in the neck.

Police officers from Mokwa Division responded promptly to the scene and rushed the victim to the General Hospital in Mokwa. Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed that Japo was dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary for postmortem examination.

Two other individuals—Shehu Usman and another man identified only as Abubakar—sustained injuries during the clash and are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Suspects Identified

Authorities have identified eight individuals allegedly involved in the confrontation: Suka Alh. Sani, Adamu Mukwake, Mohammed Abubakar, Umaru Usman, Mohammed Garba, Umaru Garba, Usman Garba, and Abubakar Majo.

Niger State Police have launched an investigation to determine the root cause of the violence and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. The authorities have yet to release information about any arrests made in connection with the incident.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between herders and farming communities in various parts of Nigeria, which have resulted in numerous casualties and property destruction over the years.
