The Chairman of Rano Local Government Area in Kano State, Malam Naziru Yau, has issued a passionate appeal for peace during the upcoming Eid al-Kabir celebration, weeks after violent unrest claimed the life of a Divisional Police Officer in the area.

The appeal comes in the wake of recent violence in Rano town that resulted in the tragic killing of DPO Baba Ali. The unrest reportedly began with a 'wild' celebration that escalated into a confrontation with police, leading to the death of a young man in police custody and subsequent violent reprisals.

Call for Unity and Forgiveness

In a statement delivered through the Speaker of the Rano Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi Jibrin, Chairman Yau urged residents to embrace the core values of the festival.

"Let us use this blessed period of Eid to reflect, forgive, and renew our commitment to peaceful coexistence," Malam Naziru Yau stated in the communiqué signed by Zonal Information Officer Khalil Ibrahim Kura.

The Chairman specifically called on youth, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and all community stakeholders to take responsibility for maintaining peace and preventing any form of violence during the celebrations.

Moving Forward After Tragedy

The appeal emphasizes the need for the community to move beyond the recent tragic events and focus on unity, forgiveness, and love—principles that align with the spirit of Eid al-Kabir.

"I appeal to our youth, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and all stakeholders to ensure that the upcoming celebration is free of violence and disorder," the Chairman added.

Local authorities appear determined to prevent any recurrence of violence as the community prepares for one of the most significant Islamic festivals of the year.
