The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has announced the cancellation of all planned Sallah durbar activities by the Kano Emirate. The Emir made this announcement while addressing journalists at the Kofar Kudu palace.

According to Sanusi, the decision came after meetings with the Kano State Government, where he was presented with evidence of plans to use the traditional procession to create tension in the state.

Security Concerns Behind Cancellation

"After a series of advice, the emirate council has cancelled the Sallah Durbar activities," the Emir stated. "Therefore, we are directing all our district heads, wards and village heads to strictly adhere and stay in their location to avoid any unforeseen circumstances."

This development follows an earlier announcement by joint security agencies in Kano on Tuesday, reiterating that the ban on all forms of Sallah Durbar activities in the state remains in force.

The Sallah durbar is a colorful horse parade that traditionally marks Eid celebrations in northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano. It typically features the Emir and his entourage riding on decorated horses through the city, attracting large crowds of spectators.

Wider Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations

Despite the cancellation of the durbar, Eid-el-Kabir celebrations continue across Nigeria. Various leaders have used the occasion to call for peace and unity in the country.

The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged leaders to act decisively to address the nation's challenges, while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has sent a message of hope to Muslims across the country.
