Muslims in Abia State joined their counterparts worldwide on Friday to commemorate this year's Eid al-Kabir celebration with a special prayer session at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The Sallah prayer, which began around 9:00 AM, drew a large gathering of Muslim faithful adorned in festive attire and celebratory spirits.
Call for Peace and Unity
In his Sallah message, the Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, Alhaji Aminu Lawal, emphasized themes of peace, unity, and tolerance. He urged Muslims to reflect the essence of the spiritual event in all their actions.
"We are all brothers," Lawal declared. "Let us live together in harmony and unite across religious divides."
The Islamic cleric expressed gratitude to Allah for the grace to witness this year's Sallah in good health and stressed the importance for Muslims to emulate the exemplary qualities of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) in their daily lives.
Prayers for Nigeria's Stability
Amid current economic challenges and security concerns in Nigeria, the Chief Imam called on the faithful to intensify prayers for national peace, stability, and economic revival. He reminded worshippers about the significance of submission to God and peaceful coexistence among all tribes in the country.
Lawal also thanked Governor Alex Otti for including Muslims in state affairs and for sponsoring Muslim pilgrims to the 2025 Islamic Pilgrimage.
The present economic and security situation in the nation entails fervent prayers for peace, unity and love among all tribes in the country.
Faithful Share Their Experiences
Several attendees, including Sanusi Mohammed, Emeka Ibelegbu Mohammed, Alhaji Abdulkamin Adekunle, and Dahiru Alhassan, described the event as one of the pillars of Islam. They expressed their gratitude to Allah and encouraged everyone to pursue peace, love, and mutual respect at all times.
The celebration culminated with the symbolic slaughter of a ram by the Imam, commemorating Ibrahim's act of faith and God's providence in providing a substitute sacrifice.
