The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 28,000 personnel across the country to ensure comprehensive security coverage during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, issued the directive as part of strategic measures to safeguard lives, property, and critical national infrastructure throughout the festive period.

Strategic Deployment of Specialized Units

The nationwide security operation will draw personnel from various specialized departments including the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General's Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and Special Weapon and Tactics operatives.

According to CSC Afolabi Babawale, NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, the deployment will cover the periods before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to ensure continuous security presence.

Focus on Multiple Security Challenges

Dr. Audi emphasized that the operation aims to address numerous security challenges facing the nation, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, illegal bunkering activities, vandalism of critical infrastructure, farmer-herder clashes, and other acts of economic sabotage.

"The protection of critical national assets and infrastructure and the safety of lives and property remain our priority in order to forestall all acts of criminal tendencies planned by unscrupulous elements," the Commandant General stated.

Community-Based Intelligence Gathering

The NSCDC chief has directed all state commandants, formation heads, officers, and personnel to enhance their intelligence-gathering techniques through community engagement, recognizing the corps' position as a grassroots security agency.

He stressed that credible intelligence remains the foundation of any successful security operation, urging personnel to work closely with local communities to gather actionable information.

The deployment aligns with similar security measures being implemented in various states, with Kwara and Kaduna States already announcing the deployment of 2,900 and 2,500 personnel respectively for the Eid celebration.
