Nigeria's Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has issued a stark warning about the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East, describing it as part of a coordinated effort to destabilize the entire Sahel region including Nigeria, Niger Republic, Burkina-Faso and Mali.

Badaru made these remarks during a two-day working visit to military facilities in Kaduna State, where he addressed the growing security concerns in the region.

Regional Terrorist Resurgence

"If you're following what's happening in Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, and Mali, you'll see that these attacks have heightened everywhere," Badaru told reporters after touring military installations. "There's a renewed vigour by the insurgents to destabilize the Sahel region and we're doing a lot to curtail them."

The Minister expressed confidence in the federal government's commitment to combating these terrorist groups, emphasizing that normalcy would eventually return to the affected regions.

"If you'll do justice to us, in the past two weeks, you'll see that the armed forces are gaining momentum and attacking and eliminating them," he added.

Recent Attack in Borno

The Minister's warning comes in the wake of a deadly attack where suspected Boko Haram terrorists planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, resulting in the deaths of nine persons last weekend.

This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by the terrorist group despite ongoing military operations to neutralize their activities in the region.

Security experts have noted that the interconnected nature of these attacks across national borders highlights the need for enhanced regional cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts throughout the Sahel.

The federal government continues to strengthen its military response while seeking international support to address the root causes of insurgency in the region.
