Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old man identified as Safiyanu Abubakar for allegedly vandalizing residential properties in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The suspect was apprehended on Monday, June 2, 2025, while reportedly moving from one residential building to another in Eyita Estate, Itamaga, Ikorodu, removing aluminum windows and electricity cables.
According to a statement released by the Lagos Police via their official social media handle, Abubakar was caught in the act as he systematically targeted multiple homes in the residential estate.
Arrest and Prosecution
"Yesterday, the operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, arrested a suspected vandal, Safiyanu Abubakar, 20 years. He was caught moving from house to house removing aluminum windows and electricity cables from residential buildings in Eyita Estate, Itamaga Ikorodu," the police statement read.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene of the alleged crime. BenriNews has learned that Abubakar has since been charged to court in connection with the offenses.
Rising Concerns Over Property Vandalism
This arrest comes amid growing concerns about property vandalism in various parts of Lagos State. Residents of several communities have reported incidents of theft targeting building materials and electrical installations.
The RRS, a specialized unit of the Lagos State Police Command, continues to intensify efforts to combat various forms of crime across the state, with particular attention to property-related offenses that affect residents' security and quality of life.
