A 26-year-old scavenger, Abdulrasheed Ibrahim, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) for allegedly stealing aluminium and electrical wires in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The suspect was apprehended during a routine patrol by officers attached to the Iyesi Area Command in the early hours of Wednesday, June 12, 2025, around 2:00 a.m.

According to a statement from the Office of the Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, signed by Public Relations Officer, Moruf Yusuf, the patrol team spotted Ibrahim in possession of stolen aluminium and electrical wires. When questioned, the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation or prove ownership of the items.

Repeat Offender Confesses

During preliminary interrogation, Ibrahim, who resides at Obasanjo Power Line, admitted to vandalizing a house located behind the Winners Chapel fence. More concerning, he confessed to having been arrested on four previous occasions for similar crimes, indicating a pattern of repeated property theft.

"Officers attached to the Iyesi Area Command who were on routine patrol sighted the suspect believed to be a scavenger in possession of the stolen aluminium and electrical wires," part of the statement reads.

The Corps Commander stated that both the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Onipanu Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commitment to Security

Ganzallo reassured the public that the relative peace and security enjoyed across Ogun State will not be compromised, emphasizing that "no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state."

This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat property theft and vandalism in Ogun State, particularly targeting scavengers who may be involved in illegal activities.
