The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Habeeb Sheu for allegedly breaking into a property and stealing 16 mattresses in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to police reports, the property owner, who resides in the Federal Capital Territory, had entrusted the items to his younger brother's care before the theft occurred.
How The Theft Was Discovered
The theft came to light when a family member named Abdulrahman conducted a routine welfare check at the home. Upon arrival, he discovered that the property had been broken into and several items, including eight orthopaedic mattresses, were missing.
SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the incident. She stated that the suspect, a resident of the Sango area of Ilorin, was arrested following an investigation into the break-in.
"The police recovered 16 mattresses from the suspect's residence. Six mattresses were identified to be the orthopaedic mattresses the owner reported stolen, the other ten were assorted types," she explained.
Ongoing Investigation
The police spokesperson further revealed that Sheu remains in police custody undergoing questioning. The investigation continues as authorities work to trace and apprehend potential accomplices and recover any additional stolen items.
