The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter has extended its deepest condolences to residents of Mokwa following the devastating flood disaster that recently struck communities in the area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the State Chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, expressed solidarity on behalf of Christians throughout the state and assured affected residents of continued prayers during this difficult period.

"On behalf of the entire Christendom in the state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and we stand with everyone who has suffered in this disaster," Yohanna stated.

Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, commended both federal and state governments for their swift response in directing relevant ministries, departments, agencies, and emergency response teams to mobilize resources and support for the affected population.

The clergyman urged residents to maintain hope and actively participate in recovery efforts to ensure that Mokwa emerges stronger from the crisis.

"While we continue in our prayers for you, we urge you to remain hopeful and resilient," he added.

Although the statement did not provide specific details about casualties or property damage, related reports indicate that the disaster has had significant impact on the community. A separate report on the same flood disaster mentioned that 151 bodies had been recovered, with 3,018 persons displaced and 265 houses destroyed.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago had previously expressed sympathy to families of victims affected by the disaster, further highlighting the severity of the situation in Mokwa.
