The Oluwu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Makama Oyelude, has renewed his call for Nigerians to rally behind the Nigerian military as the country faces escalating security challenges and emerging threats.
In a statement released through his media office on Friday, the traditional ruler emphasized the critical need for national support following the recent arrest of Pakistani nationals by Nigerian military forces earlier this week.
Oba Makama expressed concern over what he described as an invasion of the country by various militias and mercenaries, which he said poses a significant threat to national security. He specifically urged traditional rulers to ensure their domains remain safe and secure from terrorist elements.
"As we all know that the Nigerian Army is responsible for the promotion and securing of our territorial integrity which is the symbol of our sovereignty, we must all rally round them to ensure they succeed in this onerous task," the monarch stated.
The Osun State traditional ruler emphasized that maintaining Nigeria's unity is a non-negotiable objective, warning that failure would have devastating consequences for all citizens.
Alarming Developments
Oba Makama expressed shock at the discovery of Pakistani nationals allegedly training Boko Haram insurgents to attack the Nigerian Army. "It is unthinkable that Pakistan nationals will be caught training the Boko Haram insurgency on how to attack the symbol of our sovereignty which is the Nigerian Army," he remarked.
The traditional ruler also highlighted the concerning technological advancement of terrorist groups, noting that they have "acquired weapons such as UAV (drones) and the latest military hardware to confront our army."
"We must ensure that all hands are on deck to defeat this deadly monster before it is too late," he added, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
In his statement, the Olowu of Kuta also commended Lieutenant General Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, for prioritizing troops' welfare and leading military operations from the front lines.
The monarch's appeal comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with multiple security challenges across different regions, with insurgency remaining a persistent threat to national stability and development.
