A Nigeria Immigration Service officer, Ugochukwu Orji, will be honoured by his community for demonstrating exceptional integrity by arresting a suspected ritualist and rejecting a reported N10 million bribe offer.

The announcement was made by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, the lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South LGA in the National Assembly, who revealed that Officer Orji will be celebrated alongside Governor Alex Otti at an upcoming Grand Civic Reception.

Orji, who hails from Isiala Ngwa in Abia State, gained recognition after apprehending Mr. Levi Obieze, described as a fleeing suspected ritualist from Enugu State.

"Congratulations, our dear brother. You have made us proud and shown that Isiala Ngwa people can be trusted," Onwusibe stated. "We have resolved to honour you tomorrow alongside the Governor."

The lawmaker added that arrangements have been made for Orji's release from duty to attend the event, with provisions for air tickets and other logistics.

Community Pride

The Alumni of Holy Family Secondary School, Osusu in Isiala Ngwa, where Orji studied, have also expressed pride in their former student. In a statement jointly signed by Agbara Reginald and Isaac Chidiebere, President and Secretary respectively, the alumni praised the immigration officer for displaying "courageous and exemplary conduct notable of the institution he passed through."

This recognition comes amid growing calls for the celebration of integrity in public service, particularly among security personnel in Nigeria.

The Enugu State Government had previously commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for the arrest of the suspected ritualist, highlighting the importance of the operation in maintaining public safety.

Officer Orji's actions represent a positive example of professionalism within Nigeria's security agencies at a time when public trust in such institutions remains a significant concern.
