The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command, has officially handed over notorious crime suspect Obi Levi Obieze to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation, according to a statement released on Friday.
Lagos Police Command spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the transfer via his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating: "ONGOING: @nigimmigration, Lagos State Command hands over wanted suspect, Obi Levi Obieze, to @LagosPoliceNG at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja."
Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, was apprehended on May 29, 2025, by NIS operatives at the Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road. According to reports, he was attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle when he was intercepted.
The arrest followed credible intelligence linking Obieze to serious crimes including the abduction, kidnapping, and alleged ritual killing of a 13-year-old girl in Isiagu Community, Enugu State.
Prior to his capture, Obieze had been on the run after authorities discovered what has been described as an "underground site" in the Umuma Ndiagu community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Reports indicate the site contained remains of multiple victims, prompting a nationwide manhunt for the suspect.
The handover to Lagos Police marks a significant development in the case that has shocked communities across Nigeria, particularly in Enugu State where the alleged crimes took place.
Authorities have not yet released details about potential charges or when Obieze will appear in court. The Lagos State Police Command is expected to coordinate with their counterparts in Enugu State as the investigation continues.
