Abia State Governor Alex Otti has declared that his potential re-election bid for a second term in 2027 will be determined by divine guidance, despite receiving a strong endorsement from his kinsmen.

Speaking at a civic reception organized in his honor by the Oha Isiala Ngwa people of Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Government Areas at Okpuala Ngwa Stadium, Otti expressed gratitude for being endorsed as their sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election but maintained that he would seek spiritual direction before making any formal declaration.

"Just like 2023 was in the hands of God, 2027 will also be in the hands of God. While I appreciate your endorsement, which I understand to be a recognition of the work done so far, I will continue to consult with God, and in due course, I will make my position known," the governor stated.

Development Strategy Focused on Aba

During the event, Governor Otti emphasized the strategic importance of Aba to his administration's economic development plan. He explained that investments in the commercial city are designed to boost internally generated revenue that would fund development projects across the state.

"Aba occupies a central place in our development strategy—not just for Abia, but for the South East and South-South. The city's economic potential is key to our vision for statewide development," Otti remarked.

The governor also addressed infrastructure development, confirming that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project is on schedule for completion by December. He clarified that the decision to site the Abia Airport project in Nsulu was based on technical feasibility rather than political considerations, adding that full compensation has been paid to verified landowners affected by the project.

Political Support and Infrastructure Commitments

The reception witnessed the formal declaration of support for the Labour Party by new members from various political parties, including former members of the PDP and Accord Party, as well as representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

In a demonstration of his commitment to grassroots development, Otti announced plans to upgrade the Sam Ihesiulo Stadium in Okpuala Ngwa to a modern sporting facility. He directed the Commissioners for Works and Youth & Sports to commence the process immediately.

Several lawmakers, including Representative Ginger Onwusibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, and Honorable Collins Iheonunekwu, praised the governor's leadership and urged him to seek a second term, citing his achievements in infrastructure development and governance reforms.

While the endorsement signals strong local support for Otti's administration, the governor's cautious approach to announcing his 2027 ambitions reflects his stated commitment to divine guidance in his political decisions.
