The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 young men following a violent clash between rival gangs in Medile and Sheka areas that occurred on Tuesday night, May 26, 2025.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended after they allegedly engaged in a knife battle that escalated into burglary and theft.
"The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects in connection with a thuggery incident that occurred on 26th May 2025, at about 10:00pm in Medile Quarters. The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the area, attacked and inflicted injuries on innocent citizens, and robbed them of their belongings," the statement read.
Suspects Identified
The police identified the arrested suspects as Aliyu Ibrahim (21), Abubakar Ya'u (18), Ibrahim Kaulayi (19), Ibrahim Murtala alias Mai Rakuma (18), Abba Musa alias Giza Gizo (27), Muhammad Dawud alias Dan Besse (19), Abdullahi Ibrahim alias Tsoho Me Nama (38), Jibril Abubakar alias Abasu Kala (22), Salim Musa (20), Zaharaddin Ismail alias Gwan Gwan (20), and Abubakar Hassan alias Meguda Dan Ta (44).
The incident, which began as a confrontation between rival groups, quickly deteriorated into a violent assault on local residents and businesses, with the gang members reportedly looting shops in the affected areas.
In the statement, the Kano Police Command expressed appreciation for the cooperation of local residents in helping to apprehend the suspects and urged continued collaboration to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
While the police did not specify the charges to be filed against the suspects, they are likely to face prosecution for armed robbery, assault, and public disturbance, among other offenses.
The police have not indicated whether they are still searching for additional suspects connected to the incident.
