The Kano State Government has expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of violent gang clashes across Kano city and surrounding areas, which have claimed lives and instilled fear among residents.

State officials have attributed the surge in violence to political sabotage, directly accusing opposition figures of deliberately fueling unrest to undermine the current administration.

Political Motives Behind Gang Violence

During a live broadcast on Rahma Radio's "Gwamnati da Jama'a" program, Hon. Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made serious allegations about the root cause of the violence.

"The government is not folding its arms. We are taking serious steps to address this challenge by engaging the youth productively through employment opportunities and access to education," the commissioner stated, while claiming certain politicians were sponsoring youth gangs as part of a calculated political agenda.

Recent Violence and Government Response

Between Wednesday night and Saturday morning last week, multiple gang-related clashes, including incidents of phone snatching, resulted in at least two fatalities in Kano city. These violent outbreaks have severely disrupted daily activities in several areas, leaving residents living in fear.

In response to the escalating situation, the state government has established a dedicated committee led by Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, Commissioner for Science and Technology. This committee is reportedly working "round-the-clock" to enhance security measures throughout the state.

Hon. Tajuddeen reaffirmed that safeguarding lives and property remains one of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's top priorities—a commitment made even before he assumed office.

The government's approach appears to be two-pronged: addressing immediate security concerns while simultaneously tackling underlying issues through youth engagement initiatives aimed at providing alternatives to gang involvement.

As tensions remain high in Kano, residents await concrete actions that will translate the government's promises into tangible improvements in public safety.
