The Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent deadly attacks on Munga Lalau and Munga Doso communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
The attacks, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, reportedly claimed dozens of lives, left many injured, and several others missing, according to a statement released by CAN Chairman Rev. Fr. Dr. Williams Awoshiri on Sunday.
"We are deeply pained and alarmed by the continued loss of innocent lives and the growing climate of fear. These tragic events underscore the urgent need for decisive and sustained action to end the violence," the statement read.
The religious body expressed serious concern over the displacement of residents and the atmosphere of fear that has engulfed the affected communities following the violent attacks.
While acknowledging the efforts of the Taraba State government and security agencies currently deployed to the area, CAN called for intensified response measures to ensure justice for victims and guarantee the safety of all citizens, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliations.
The association extended heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attacks and appealed for unity and compassion during what it described as a "dark and difficult time."
In a passionate plea for peace, Rev. Awoshiri urged all parties involved in the conflict to abandon violence and pursue peaceful dialogue, stating: "Violence only breeds more hatred and deepens wounds that may take generations to heal."
The CAN chairman called for collaboration among government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the crisis.
"We reaffirm our resolve to work with all stakeholders in promoting peace and reconciliation," Awoshiri said. "May God heal our land and give our leaders the wisdom and courage to do what is right."
The association also urged Nigerians to pray for the affected communities and the entire nation, emphasizing CAN's continued commitment to peace, justice, and reconciliation in Taraba State and beyond.
