Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on the federal government to take urgent action following Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum's alarming revelation about insurgency in Nigeria.
Governor Zulum had recently accused some military officers and politicians of serving as informants and collaborators for Boko Haram terrorists, a claim that has sent shockwaves across the nation.
Responding to the revelation, Obi described it as "a damning indictment on the state of our nation" that requires immediate attention from authorities.
"The recent outcry by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state that Boko Haram informants and terrorists exist among our politicians and within our armed forces is not just shocking; it is devastating," Obi stated.
"And if true, it confirms what many Nigerians have long feared: that our country is bleeding not only from external attacks but from betrayal at the highest levels," the former Anambra State Governor added.
Obi emphasized that silence and inaction would only embolden "the enemies within" and insisted that "the Nigerian people demand answers and action."
He commended Governor Zulum for speaking out and called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, urging that the situation be confronted with "courage and justice."
"Nigeria cannot afford to be held hostage by the very people entrusted to defend her," Obi declared, calling on all Nigerians to rise against insecurity with "courage, clarity, and a commitment to reclaim the country from the shadows."
The revelation comes amid ongoing security challenges in northern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and other terrorist groups have waged a devastating insurgency for over a decade.
