Three farmers have been killed by suspected armed bandits while clearing their farmlands in preparation for the rainy season in Katsina State.
The deadly attack occurred on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Azkwai Yalwa Village, Gidan Daudu, located in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the victims were identified as Isah Zangon Daura, Mani Zangon Daura, and a third male whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
Security forces, including troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA, the police, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (C-Watch), responded swiftly to the attack. However, the assailants had already fled the scene before their arrival.
The victims were rushed to the General Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel. Their bodies were subsequently released to the village head for burial according to local customs.
This attack comes as farmers across northern Nigeria begin preparations for the upcoming planting season, raising concerns about agricultural activities in areas affected by banditry.
Kankara Local Government Area has previously experienced similar security challenges, with bandits targeting rural communities and disrupting farming activities, which are crucial to the region's economy and food security.
As of the time of this report, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident or any measures being implemented to prevent similar attacks as the farming season approaches.
