Tension has gripped Chito town in Adzendeshi Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, following a brutal attack by armed bandits on Saturday. The assault occurred in the early hours of the day, leaving residents traumatized and property looted.

According to reports, over ten armed assailants stormed the Tse-Mamkaa Compound around 2:26 a.m., unleashing terror on the residents for approximately one hour and thirty minutes. The bandits reportedly beat family members, ransacked homes, and made away with various valuables.

Details of the Attack

Dr. Isaac H. Mamkaa, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, College of Education, Katsina-Ala, confirmed the incident in a formal complaint addressed to relevant authorities. According to his report, two family members sustained injuries during the assault: Timothy T. Mamkaa and Nathaniel Mwuesega Mamkaa, who is the head of the family.

The bandits did not spare the household of their grandfather, Kur Sev Adudu, during the rampage. The attackers looted a wide range of items including clothes, footwear, food items, and kitchen supplies. Even basic necessities such as salt, seasoning cubes, and flour were not spared.

Threat of Future Attacks

Of particular concern is a warning reportedly issued by the assailants during the attack. Dr. Mamkaa revealed that the criminals vowed to return for a second, more devastating assault on the community.

"In view of the above... I appeal for your timely response and/or proactive action to avert the impending/looming calamity," he pleaded in his letter to the authorities.

The security situation in Benue State has remained concerning, with multiple communities facing threats from armed groups in recent months.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or make any arrests in connection with the attack.
