In a significant political development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have reportedly formed a coalition, adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their official political platform.
According to reliable sources, the three prominent political figures reached this agreement following extensive deliberations during a meeting that extended from Tuesday night into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
An insider who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed to reporters: "The coalition has been born. They have adopted the African Democratic Congress as the coalition party, all of them (Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai) are working together. They came to the conclusion last night up till the early hours of this morning."
The source further disclosed that all leaders and stakeholders of the coalition attended the meeting, where they established committees to finalize arrangements and prepare for the eventual public unveiling of the coalition.
"But effectively, as we speak, the coalition has been born, the conclusion meeting took place," the source affirmed.
When asked about the date for the official unveiling of the coalition, the source indicated that while no specific date has been set, the public announcement would happen "sooner than later, very soon."
This development represents a significant realignment in Nigeria's political landscape, bringing together three influential figures from different political backgrounds. Atiku Abubakar was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi ran on the Labour Party platform, while Nasir El-Rufai is a former governor associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political analysts suggest this coalition could potentially reshape opposition politics in Nigeria ahead of future elections. The public will be watching closely for the official unveiling of this new political alliance and its policy direction.
