The Kano State Police Command has successfully dismantled multiple inter-state robbery syndicates, arresting six suspects and recovering four stolen vehicles during operations spanning Kano, Plateau, Kaduna, and Jigawa States.
According to a statement released on May 20, 2025, by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command's tactical teams conducted a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal networks specializing in violent robberies and vehicle theft.
The first breakthrough came on May 10 when officers tracked and apprehended Saidu Abubakar in Plateau State. The suspect was found with a 2016 Toyota Corolla that had been stolen at gunpoint from Nura Abdullahi in Kano on May 2. During interrogation, Abubakar confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in vehicle snatching operations.
In a separate operation, police arrested three suspects—Abdulaziz Usman (27), Umar Abubakar (22), and Sunusi Abdullahi (28)—who allegedly invaded a residence in Hotoro, Kano, armed with knives and cutlasses. The gang reportedly stole a Toyota Yaris, electronic devices including laptops and an iPhone 11, and ₦102,000 in cash during the 3:30 a.m. attack on May 1.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Umar Aliyu in Kaduna State, identified as a receiver of stolen goods. Police recovered two vehicles from him—the Toyota Yaris taken during the Hotoro robbery and an unregistered Peugeot 406 that had been stolen from Bechi Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The Command recorded additional success on May 16 when detectives intercepted Ibrahim Isa in Kano while he attempted to sell a suspected stolen Howo concrete mixer truck. Investigations revealed the heavy-duty vehicle had been stolen earlier that day from Kazaure in neighboring Jigawa State.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and dedication. "These arrests reflect our unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks and protect the lives and property of citizens," he stated.
The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to securing Kano State and encouraged residents to use the emergency contact numbers—08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926—to share timely information with law enforcement.
All suspects remain in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations, with formal charges expected to follow soon.
