A man was electrocuted to death on Wednesday morning while allegedly attempting to steal electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat complex in Dutse, police authorities have confirmed.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, reported that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when police officers responded to a distress call from the secretariat premises.

"Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man underneath a concrete slab containing high-voltage armoured cables," DSP Shiisu stated.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize the power infrastructure at the government facility. The body has been transferred to a morgue as authorities work to establish the man's identity.

DSP Shiisu strongly condemned the act of cable theft, warning members of the public about the dangers associated with such criminal activities.

"Such actions are not only illegal but extremely dangerous and can lead to fatal consequences as evidenced by this incident," he emphasized.

The police spokesperson urged residents to report any suspicious activities around public facilities to security agencies to prevent similar incidents and protect critical infrastructure.

Police authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident and promised to provide additional details as they become available.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenge of infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria, which continues to affect public facilities and services across the country.
