An unidentified staff member of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has been electrocuted while working on a faulty power line in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday near the West African Examination Council (WAEC) office in the Ijokodo area of Ibadan when electricity was suddenly restored while the worker was still on the pole.

According to reports, the victim was working on a faulty line when power was unexpectedly restored to the area. The worker, who was positioned at the top of the utility pole, was immediately electrocuted.

Eyewitnesses reported that it took several minutes for the worker's colleagues to bring him down from the pole. The injured staff member was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.

As of Saturday, further details about the victim's identity and current condition have not been disclosed by IBEDC management.

Multiple attempts to get official comments from IBEDC representatives have been unsuccessful. Calls to Busola Tunwase, the head of media relations at IBEDC, went unanswered on Friday.

When contacted, Angela Olanrewaju, the Coordinating Head of Corporate Services at IBEDC, requested the reporter's contact information but has yet to provide an official statement regarding the incident.

This incident highlights the occupational hazards faced by electrical workers and raises questions about safety protocols during maintenance operations on power lines.
