A man was electrocuted on Wednesday morning while attempting to steal armoured electrical cables at the Jigawa State Secretariat complex in Dutse, police authorities have confirmed.

According to Lawan Shiisu, the police spokesperson for Jigawa State, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when law enforcement operatives were alerted and rushed to the scene.

"A team of policemen led by the divisional police officer of Dutse division responded to the call," the statement read. "Upon arrival, the police officers discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male adult under a slab that contained armoured cables."

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize the cables, which were connected to a high-voltage power source. The deceased's body has been taken to the morgue for further examination.

Condemning the act, the police spokesperson warned the public against engaging in dangerous and illegal activities such as cable theft. He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station.

"As the investigation progresses, the command will provide additional updates," Shiisu added.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria, which continues to pose significant challenges to power distribution and public safety across the country.
