Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the disbursement of vehicles to primary and secondary school teachers under a special loan scheme valued at ₦200 million, according to a statement from the governor's office.
The initiative, announced during the official flag-off ceremony for distribution of instructional materials to public schools, forms part of the administration's broader agenda to enhance teacher welfare and improve educational standards across the state.
"Providing vehicles for our teachers is a strategic step toward improving their working conditions and encouraging dedication to duty," Governor Yusuf was quoted as saying by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The governor emphasized the critical role of educators in national development, describing teachers as "the backbone of every progressive society" and insisting that their welfare is "non-negotiable" for achieving quality education.
"Teachers are the foundation of national development," he stated, reaffirming his administration's commitment to supporting them through various welfare programs and infrastructure improvements.
The vehicle loan scheme represents just one component of several teacher-centered policies under the governor's education reform plan. The state government also disclosed that it had invested ₦2 billion in procuring instructional materials that were recently distributed to public schools across Kano.
This latest initiative follows other educational interventions by the Yusuf administration, including the recent approval for deployment of 17,600 guards to enhance security in public schools and the screening of 4,000 teachers under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program.
Education stakeholders in the state have welcomed the development, noting that improved teacher mobility could potentially enhance supervision, punctuality, and overall educational delivery in both urban and rural areas of the state.
