A young man identified as Ibrahim Mahmud has been fatally stabbed in the chest by suspected thugs in the Bachirawa area of Kano State. The tragic incident occurred at the entrance of the residence of former Dala Local Government Chairman, Ibrahim Dan Isle, located on Secretariat Road, Dan Isle Street.
According to Abubakar Mahmud, brother of the deceased, Ibrahim was a political associate of Dan Isle, though there had been some unspecified issues between them recently. The incident occurred when Dan Isle reportedly invited Ibrahim to collect Sallah meat.
"When Ibrahim arrived, he called to inform Dan Isle that he was waiting at the gate. It was at this moment that unknown individuals attacked him and stabbed him in the chest, resulting in his death," Abubakar explained.
The family has reported the incident to the Dala Police Division. When the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene, Dan Isle and his family were nowhere to be found, and his house was locked. Attempts to reach Dan Isle for comments have been unsuccessful, with multiple phone calls returning a "busy" signal and text messages remaining unanswered at the time of this report.
Rising Political Tensions in Dala
This incident comes amid escalating political disputes in the local government area. Last month, the current Chairman of Dala Local Government, Hon. Surajo Ibrahim Imam, was accused by the Councilor representing Gobirawa Ward, Hon. Ibrahim Danwaire, of orchestrating an assault against him at the council secretariat—an allegation the chairman has denied.
Community leaders are calling on police and relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area, as concerns grow over the potential for escalating violence.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of political violence in some parts of Nigeria, particularly as tensions between political factions continue to simmer.
