Former Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has paid tribute to Professor Jibril Aminu following his death, highlighting the late statesman's numerous contributions to Nigeria's development.
In a heartfelt message shared on his verified Facebook page, Sani outlined Aminu's impressive legacy across multiple sectors, particularly in petroleum and education.
Legacy in the Petroleum Sector
"Professor Jibril Aminu constructed the Eleme Refinery and most of the petroleum depots in the country when he was the Petroleum Minister," Sani noted. "He decentralised and reformed the NNPC. Since he left office, none have been added."
This acknowledgment highlights Aminu's significant contributions to Nigeria's oil infrastructure, which remains largely unchanged decades after his tenure.
Educational Reforms and Achievements
Sani also praised Aminu's work in the education sector, stating: "As Education Minister, he established the Nomadic Education Commission and established the School for the Gifted Children, among other reforms in education."
The former senator further highlighted Aminu's impressive academic and administrative career, noting that he served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri and headed the National Universities Commission in the 1970s.
A Pioneering Academic
In his tribute, Sani emphasized Aminu's groundbreaking academic achievements: "He was the best medical student at the UCH Ibadan in the 60s, a rare feat for a northerner at that time."
Professor Aminu also represented Adamawa in the Senate for two terms, further extending his public service record.
Concluding his tribute, Shehu Sani wrote: "The nation has lost one of its greatest intellectuals and visionary leaders. May Allah grant him Aljanna Firdausi, Amin."
The passing of Professor Jibril Aminu marks the end of an era for a statesman whose contributions to Nigeria's development spanned multiple sectors and whose legacy continues to impact the nation today.
