Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered the immediate commencement of screening for over 4,000 teachers who recently completed the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, as part of efforts to strengthen the state's education sector.
The directive was issued on Monday during a ceremony organized for the distribution of instructional materials to public schools across the state.
According to a statement by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf has instructed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to conduct the screening without delay. The BESDA staff will undergo aptitude tests to determine their eligibility for permanent employment in the state's education system.
"This is part of our effort to reward dedication and ensure quality education delivery," Governor Yusuf stated. "Only those who are qualified and capable will be absorbed into the system."
The governor emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere job creation, focusing instead on improving educational standards in public schools across Kano State.
"This move is not just about job creation; it's about improving the quality of education in our public schools and ensuring our children are taught by qualified professionals," he added.
The aptitude test will serve as a transparent yardstick for assessing the competence of the prospective teachers, ensuring that only those with the requisite skills and knowledge are integrated into the state's education workforce.
This development comes as part of the governor's broader commitment to educational reform in Kano State, which has included various initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, teacher quality, and learning outcomes for students.
