Former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has launched a scathing response to veteran Nigerian musician and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, following the latter's criticism of Melaye's flamboyant lifestyle.

The exchange began when Charly Boy commented on a video where Melaye had claimed to be a "limited edition," suggesting that the former senator might be suffering from depression despite his wealth. The musician had remarked that "not all mental illnesses are noticeable" in his critique of Melaye's ostentatious displays of luxury.

In a video shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Melaye, who represented Kogi West during the 8th Assembly, claimed that Charly Boy's destiny "has been thrown inside freezer" and accused the musician of attempting to use his name to gain popularity.

"I heard he has a leaking roof but he has no money to fix it. He places a whole big bike in front of his house like a statue and he doesn't see that as a show off," Melaye stated in the video.

The former senator added, "He wanted to use my name to gain popularity because his destiny has been thrown inside freezer."

This public spat highlights the ongoing tension between the two public figures. Melaye is known for his lavish lifestyle and frequent displays of luxury cars and wealth on social media, which has drawn both admiration and criticism from Nigerians.

Charly Boy, on the other hand, has positioned himself as an activist and social commentator in recent years, often criticizing politicians and speaking on social issues affecting Nigerians.

The exchange has sparked reactions on social media, with Nigerians divided in their support for either of the two personalities.
