Tech billionaire Elon Musk has deleted an explosive social media post that alleged US President Donald Trump appeared in unreleased government files connected to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, marking a dramatic escalation in their public fallout.
Musk, who recently resigned from his role as a top White House advisor, made the unsubstantiated claim on Thursday on his social media platform X, writing: "Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public."
In a follow-up message that has also since been deleted, Musk doubled down on his allegation, stating: "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." By Saturday morning, both posts had disappeared from his account.
Relationship Breakdown Between Musk and Trump
The controversial posts came amid a rapidly deteriorating relationship between the world's richest person and the US President. Just last week, Trump had given Musk a glowing send-off as he departed his cost-cutting role at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, their relationship imploded within days after Musk described a pending spending bill, which could define Trump's second term in office if passed by Congress, as "an abomination." Trump responded with an Oval Office rebuke, triggering a public spat that has left Washington insiders and social media users stunned.
Epstein Connection Claims
The Trump administration has acknowledged it is reviewing documents, videos, and investigative material that his "MAGA" movement claims will expose public figures complicit in Epstein's crimes. The former financier died by suicide in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges.
President Trump was reportedly named in a collection of depositions and statements linked to Epstein that were unsealed by a New York judge in early 2024. However, he has not been accused of any wrongdoing in the case.
While Trump has acknowledged knowing and socializing with Epstein, he has consistently denied spending time on Little Saint James, the private island in the US Virgin Islands where prosecutors alleged Epstein trafficked underage girls for sex.
Musk provided no evidence for his claims about Trump's appearance in unreleased Epstein files, nor did he specify which files he was referring to in his now-deleted posts.
The public fallout between these two powerful figures continues to develop, leaving many wondering about the potential political and social ramifications of their rift.
