The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that President Bola Tinubu cannot personally attend to everyone seeking his attention, advising citizens to engage with ministers and advisers instead.
Wike made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today program, responding to recent criticisms from former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.
"Everyone cannot reach out to Tinubu, he can't attend to everyone, people should meet with ministers and advisers," Wike emphasized during the program.
The FCT Minister suggested that Lawal's criticisms stem from personal disappointment rather than genuine governance concerns. "His anger is that President Tinubu did not choose him as running mate. It is very clear. We are not kids," Wike stated.
Lawal had previously commented that he would not have been able to cope if he were a member of the current administration's cabinet, a statement that prompted Wike's response.
This exchange highlights ongoing tensions within Nigeria's political landscape as the Tinubu administration continues to face scrutiny from various quarters, including former government officials.
In related developments, Wike has recently ordered the FCT Education Secretary to release a list of schools being furnished in the territory, demonstrating his focus on transparency in the administration of the Federal Capital.
The Minister has also been involved in a contract dispute, stating firmly that he "can't be intimidated" and demanding evidence from contractors making claims against his administration.
