Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has made a surprising revelation about his experience living in Europe, describing the continent as "boring" compared to life in Nigeria.
The Nigerian international expressed that he would willingly endure a six-hour daily commute from Nigeria to Germany just to escape the monotonous European lifestyle while still playing for his German club.
"If Nigeria is like a six-hour drive to Germany, I would stay here [Nigeria] and drive every morning to train and play in Germany. Europe is boring," Boniface stated during the latest edition of The Culture League Podcast.
The podcast, which Boniface created alongside fellow Super Eagles teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika, is anchored by popular video jockey and TV presenter Adams Adebola, also known as VJ Adams. During the episode, the three players engaged in a candid discussion comparing lifestyles in Nigeria and Europe.
Boniface, who joined Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian side Union SG in 2023, has been making waves in the Bundesliga since his arrival. His comments offer a rare glimpse into the personal challenges faced by African footballers adapting to European culture despite their professional success.
The striker's remarks highlight the cultural adjustment many Nigerian players experience when moving abroad for their football careers, suggesting that professional opportunities often come with personal sacrifices regarding lifestyle and cultural connection.
