The details of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface's anticipated move from Bayer Leverkusen to Italian giants AC Milan have been revealed, with the transfer taking shape as a loan deal that includes a €30 million buy option clause.
According to reliable football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both clubs have already reached a verbal agreement for the deal structure, which notably features a non-mandatory purchase option. This arrangement gives AC Milan flexibility regarding Boniface's long-term future at the San Siro.
"AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen preparing formal documents after verbal agreement for Victor Boniface," Romano confirmed on Wednesday via his social media account. "Loan deal with €30m buy option clause not mandatory."
The transfer specialist further revealed that negotiations have now progressed to the final crucial stage: "AC Milan now in direct talks with Victor Boniface's agent over personal terms, key final step to get the deal done."
This development comes as somewhat surprising considering Boniface's impressive performances for Leverkusen under manager Xabi Alonso, where he played a significant role in their historic unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign last season.
The 23-year-old Nigerian international would join compatriot Samuel Chukwueze at AC Milan if the deal is completed, potentially forming an exciting Nigerian connection in the Rossoneri attack for the 2025/26 Serie A season.
Boniface has previously made headlines for his outspoken nature, having recently criticized some of his Super Eagles teammates, claiming "they don't care whether they win or lose" following Nigeria's disappointing performances in recent international fixtures.
