Nigerian international striker Victor Boniface's anticipated transfer to AC Milan has collapsed after the player reportedly failed his medical examination at the San Siro.

According to renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal has been called off despite both clubs having reached a verbal agreement within the last 48 hours. The proposed transfer structure included a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million buy-back clause between Bayer Leverkusen and the Italian giants.

Following the unsuccessful medical tests, Boniface has returned to Germany, effectively ending negotiations between the clubs. This development comes as a significant setback for the Nigerian forward who appeared set for a move to the prestigious Serie A club.

Bayer Leverkusen's director Simon Rolfes had previously commented on the situation to German publication BILD, stating: "If Boniface comes back to Leverkusen, the AC Milan deal will be over. That's no big secret."

When questioned about the possibility of renegotiating terms, Rolfes was clear: "I don't think that will happen." He did, however, note that Boniface's "physical situation has improved compared to the beginning."

The collapse of this transfer represents a significant moment in the summer transfer window, particularly for Nigerian football fans who were eager to see another Super Eagles star competing in Italy's top flight.

Boniface will now likely remain with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen for the foreseeable future, where he has established himself as a key player under manager Xabi Alonso.
