Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has declared that Nigeria's history cannot be complete without acknowledging the contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital.

In a statement released on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ezechi Chukwu, conveyed that the group's President General, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, received news of the former Nigerian leader's death with profound shock.

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has received with shock the passing of the country's immediate past President, General Muhammadu Buhari in a London hospital on Sunday 13th July 2025," the statement read.

Buhari, who served Nigeria in various capacities throughout his lifetime, was a former Military Head of State, Executive Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), and a two-term democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.

Senator Azuta-Mbata emphasized that Buhari was a leader who contributed significantly to the Nigerian project whenever duty called, adding that the country's historical narrative would be incomplete without recognizing his role and influence.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General urged Nigerians to pray for the repose of Buhari's soul while asking that God grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the heavy loss.

Following the announcement of Buhari's death, various reactions have emerged across the country, with political parties, government officials, and international bodies expressing their condolences.
