Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has described the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a monumental loss to Nigeria, highlighting the former leader's legacy of selfless service and unwavering commitment to national unity.
In a statement released on Sunday night through his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru paid tribute to the former president, characterizing him as "a towering figure whose life was marked by selfless service, discipline, and an undistracted commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria."
"From his first appearance on the national stage as Military Head of State in 1984 to his return as democratically elected President in 2015, President Buhari consistently embodied integrity, courage, and simplicity—values that endeared him to millions of Nigerians," the governor stated.
Nwifuru emphasized the special relationship between the former president and Ebonyi State, noting, "For us in Ebonyi State, President Buhari was more than a national leader. He was a partner in development and a friend to our people."
The governor extended his condolences to the Government and people of Katsina State, as well as the Federal Government, for what he termed a "colossal loss" and offered prayers for the repose of the former President's soul.
Buhari's death has prompted reactions from various Nigerian leaders and institutions, with security reportedly being enhanced around his Kaduna residence as residents mourn his passing. The Sultan of Sokoto described the former president's death as "the end of an era," while the Emir of Daura called it a "national tragedy."
Several prominent Nigerians, including former SGF Boss Mustapha and former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, were reported to have visited the London clinic where the former president died.
