The All Progressives Congress (APC) has temporarily closed its national secretariat, known as 'Buhari House', to honor former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
According to a statement released by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the secretariat will remain closed from Monday, July 14, to Thursday, July 17, 2025, following the directive of the Acting National Chairman, Bukar Dalori.
"The All Progressives Congress announces the closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR," the statement read.
Morka urged party members and supporters to observe the period of mourning with solemn reflection and prayers for the peaceful repose of Buhari's soul.
The former President, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, died in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. His death has prompted reactions from various quarters, including the Middle Belt Forum, which commented on his economic policies, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who described Buhari's life as being "defined by duty, discipline, and consistency of purpose."
The APC itself mourned Buhari as an "unlikely democrat," while a South-South youth leader referred to him as the "change mantra." Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, described his death as "a great loss to Nigeria," and the Chinese government has also extended condolences to Nigeria.
The national secretariat, which was named after Buhari in recognition of his contributions to the party and the nation, serves as the administrative headquarters of the ruling party.
