The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has offered a heartfelt tribute to the late Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as "the end of an era in our national life."
In a statement shared via his X handle, Tambuwal expressed profound sadness at the death of the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
"President Buhari was a symbol of steadfastness, a man whose journey through Nigeria's military and democratic landscapes earned him both reverence and responsibility. His commitment to the unity, security, and sovereignty of Nigeria remained unshaken throughout his decades of public service," Tambuwal stated.
Reflecting on his time as Governor of Sokoto State during Buhari's presidency, Tambuwal acknowledged their close working relationship on matters of national importance, noting that despite belonging to different political platforms at various points, their interactions were characterized by mutual respect and a shared desire for Nigeria's progress and stability.
"President Buhari was deeply committed to the nation and remained consistent in his principles even when those principles were unpopular," he added.
Tambuwal extended his condolences to Buhari's family, particularly the former First Lady, Dr. Aisha Buhari, and his children, praying that "Almighty Allah comfort you and grant you strength and patience during this difficult time."
He also offered sympathy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging the challenge of leading the country in mourning a former President "whose leadership helped shape Nigeria's modern history."
In his message to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and the government of Katsina State, Tambuwal described Buhari as "not just a son of the soil but a towering figure whose legacy brought pride to Katsina and the entire North."
Addressing the Nigerian people, particularly those from Katsina State, Tambuwal expressed hope that this moment would "inspire a renewed reflection on the virtues of sacrifice, patriotism, and nation-building, which President Buhari embodied."
He concluded his tribute with a prayer: "May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus."
