The Northern States Governors' Forum (NSGF) has expressed profound sadness over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as a significant loss to Nigeria.

In a statement signed by NSGF chairman and Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Forum paid tribute to Buhari's remarkable life, highlighting his discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service throughout his career.

Governor Yahaya reflected on Buhari's distinguished career trajectory, noting his leadership roles as a military officer, Head of State, and later as president of Nigeria. He praised Buhari's steadfast leadership and patriotic dedication to the nation.

"Buhari mentored with humility, He governed with courage, and lived a life marked by simplicity and patriotism. His death has created a vacuum that will be felt across every sector of our national life," the statement noted.

The NSGF chairman described the former president as a mentor and moral compass who consistently championed accountability, transparency, and good governance throughout his public service career.

Governor Yahaya offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Daura Emirate, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, while praying for the former President's soul to rest in eternal peace.

"We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives all his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus," the statement concluded.

According to reports, the former president will be buried in his hometown of Daura on Monday, as the nation begins a seven-day mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu.
