The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Moshood, has confirmed that Saturday's local government elections across Lagos State proceeded peacefully without any security breaches.

During his on-the-spot assessment of multiple polling centers in Surulere, Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin, Okota, Ketu, and Ikorodu, CP Moshood described the electoral process as smooth and incident-free.

"So far, the process has gone very well. There has been no report of any disturbance. We are encouraging voters to come out, as there is still time to cast their votes," the police chief told reporters during his monitoring exercise.

CP Moshood revealed that the Lagos State Police Command implemented a comprehensive security strategy to ensure a safe environment for both voters and electoral officials. This strategy included deploying personnel to every polling unit and collation center across all 57 local government areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

"Our deployment plan covers the entire electoral process, from polling to collation. Police officers are already stationed at all collation centers to maintain law and order," he explained.

The Commissioner also issued a stern warning against any post-election disturbances, emphasizing that the police would not tolerate actions aimed at undermining the electoral process.

"We are aware that some individuals may attempt to take advantage of the post-election period, whether to celebrate or express dissatisfaction. However, we will not allow anyone to incite unrest or blackmail the outcome. The peace we have witnessed so far must be sustained," CP Moshood added.

The successful security operations come despite reports of isolated incidents, including a clash between APC loyalists and an LP agent at a polling unit in Ifako-Ijaiye, which was promptly contained by security personnel.

The Lagos local government elections are crucial for grassroots governance in Nigeria's commercial capital, determining leadership at the local council level for the next three years.
