The Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, has expressed strong confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) securing victory in the ongoing local government elections across Lagos State.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Polling Unit 014 in Ikeja GRA on Saturday, Ayinde commended the peaceful conduct of the electoral process, noting that the calm atmosphere demonstrated citizens' commitment to participating in grassroots democracy.
"So far, everything has gone smoothly. The environment is peaceful, and voters are exercising their franchise freely," he stated while observing the orderly proceedings at his polling unit.
Ayinde's optimism about APC's electoral prospects stems from what he described as the substantial achievements of both the state government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the developmental initiatives implemented by APC-led local council administrations.
"By the grace of God, I believe our party will emerge victorious. The achievements of the present administration in Lagos State, along with the developmental efforts of our council chairmen, give us good reason to be hopeful," Ayinde emphasized.
When questioned about reports of delayed commencement of voting in some areas, the Chief of Staff acknowledged that logistical challenges might have contributed to these delays. He called for improvements in future electoral exercises to enhance efficiency.
"There's always room for improvement. We hope subsequent elections will benefit from lessons learned today," he added, emphasizing the importance of continuous refinement of the electoral process.
As voting continues across Lagos State, Ayinde urged residents to maintain the peaceful atmosphere and remain engaged with the democratic process, highlighting the significance of local government elections in shaping governance at the grassroots level.
The local government elections in Lagos have attracted significant attention, with reports of isolated incidents including a confrontation between APC loyalists and a Labour Party agent in Ifako-Ijaiye area, according to earlier reports.
